What is it? How do I do it?
PECHA KUCHA is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total).
The format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced – and real.
Everyone in the room, remembers everyone else in the room!
YES, KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Not everything is simple enough to be explained in less than 7 minutes – so be focused on your best message.
WHAT’S THE MESSAGE?
Leave out the un-required and focus on your message – you should be able to condense the gist of your entire message in one, simple line. Then elaborate as required.
How to create YOUR STORY in 20 slides.
OUTLINE & STRUCTURE.
Start with an outline. e.g. – use 20 index cards for you main ideas. One idea per card. Under each main idea, jot 3 quick sentences about that idea. (Post-it notes, Word, whatever). Work with whichever medium makes you feel comfortable, as long as you end up with a rough outline.
REORDER the content in your outline.
Remove what is not required. Whatever you do, think about your AUDIENCE – you must include what they would like to hear rather than what you want to say.
Select strong visual images to go with each slide.
Text used sparingly.
The most successful Pecha Kuchas don’t use much, if any text.
Import your images into PowerPoint, timed for 20 second slide durations.
Practice as much as you can. And practice again.
LOVE YOUR AUDIENCE
Make contact, converse, be warm, and be human.
